4 – My 21^st year Birthday

 Author’s POV

Birthday
is one special day for everyone. We all receive extreme love from well wishers,
family and friends on that very day. You might decide to throw a house party to
mark your birthday or just do some special prayer & thanks giving. But what
an unexpected surprise from a loved one makes it extra special.

        Farad’s POV

  I don’t know why am feeling uneasy today…it
a special day and am meant to be extraordinaryly happy buh it the other
way…..O God  help me.

Where
is my birthday boy? Dad asked as he knocked on my door. I opened up and greeted
him with a smile. He began to sing me a birthday song and my two sisters came
out and joined him in singing.

So I
replied by singing with them; I am 21 today, I am 21 years old today, I am 21
today.

They
all shouted: Hip Hip Hip Hurray!

Dad:
Farad my son, how will you like to celebrate your birthday? I really don’t know
dad and I’m not planning on going out – I replied.

Dad:
that’s fine. I’m going to throw a house party for you, just invite your friends
from high school and I will take care of everything. Wow thanks Dad. You’re the
best. – I replied.

Naomi
& Priscilla:common Dad u also have to do the same when it our birthday…
Dad should we invite our friends too?

Dad:
oh yes, my friends are also coming here tonight. I have ordered for foods,
drinks, wines, pizzas, shawarma and more.

Priscilla:
wow! It’s going to be awesome. I can’t wait.

Naomi:
me too.  

 Farad’s in thoughts.

Well
I wasn’t that happy because there was no way I could invite Zara over for my
birthday. Perhaps I didn’t remember to tell when I had the chance to. And now,
It’s only a few hours left before the party begin.

At
Zara’s Place

Miss.
Zakiyah: Where is my princess Zara. I’m here mom – she replied.

I
want you to go in there and put on one of those lovely gowns I bought you last
week. We are going to my friend’s place together tonight.

Zara:
Which of your friend mom?

Miss.
Zakiyah: Mr. Ahmed Zubairu. Today is Farad’s birthday.

Zara:
(surprised)waw! Really he didn’t tell me.

Miss.
Zakiyah: you’ve met him? – Yes mom. (hummmm I became confused and scared at the
same time buh i shook away the fear from my eye).We’ve even go on a date
together. Date?? He’s really a sweet loving person like you said.

Miss.
Zakiyah:  Zara u never  told me you went on a date with someone…..
Zara my dear, I think it’s time I tell you this so it won’t be a surprise. I’ve
being going out with Farad’s dad and we are going to get married
soon(immediately I heard that u became dumb instantly) buh i jst have to out in
a smile face. – Awwwn mom!. And you just telling me now. I’m happy for you tho.

Miss.
Zakiyah: Thanks my darling!. Farad and his sisters would be your step siblings.

Zara
wasn’t really happy but she had to play strong since her mom have never been
married.

 They both get set and left home.

By
the time they arrived at my place, the party had already started. I was
catching fun with my friends (Adeiza, Kelvin & Jamiu) when Zara came in
with Miss. Zakiyah. It was so shocking. My dad welcomed her guest Miss. Zakiyah
and her daughter Zara publicly as he announced with a Mic. This is all fucked
up!. Naomi and Priscilla were dumb founded. I know they pity me right now.

Immediately
the Dj put on one of my favourite song. Rema – “Corny”as it was playing I felt
sad starring at Zara. I felt betrayed. She walked down to where I was sitting
with my friends and ask to speak with me for a moment. My friends excused us
and we started our conversation. She started by saying sorry. (sorry!!!)?

Zara:
I’m sorry Farad, I never knew my mum was going out with your dad until today. –
you never told me she’s your mother. I replied.

Zara:
that’s because you never asked. Remember when we met I told you I’ve heard so
much about you? – yes I remembered. I replied.

I
never knew she was the one who told you about me. Now I get it. Zara’s Collection
was named after you and I thought was just a coincidence.

Zara:
No it wasn’t. I’m sorry if you feel hurt right now, but I’m also hurt. Can
sorry amend my broken heart? Farad asked – Why are you hurt? I quickly asked.
Then she replied: because I’m in love with you. And now I just have to crunch
that feeling. No you don’t have to I love you. I’d try convince my dad to end
his marriage plans. I said.

Zara:
No no no. Don’t try that! – why won’t I? I asked.

Zara:
My mum is yet to be married to anyone so let them have their way. Perhaps it’s
late already. Your dad is proposing today. – ohh shit, I’m sorry.

Exactly
as she said, we were too late. My dad grabbed the mic again and officially
announced his proposal by fixing a ring on her finger and fixed a date for
their wedding. In shock my heart was loosing to love. What kind of fate is
this?
