3 years ago before my home was attacked…
Tuesday April 13th, 2010
On a very cold Morning, the cloud was so dark like it was about to rain heavily with lightning storm. Dad’s elder brother (my uncle) came visiting with a convoy, he was a very wealthy man before he became a famous politician. On that faithful day, I was outside playing ball with my younger brother ‘Hamza’ when he arrived. We quickly greet him by prostrating, and then said E karó sir.
Uncle Musa – Hi Sofiat, How are you and Hamza?
Sofiat – We are fine sir.
Hamza – (smiling) I’m fine sir.
Uncle Musa – Sofiat are you suppose to be playing ball with Hamza?… Don’t you know you are a lady?
Sofiat – I just wanted to keep him company.
Uncle Musa – What company?.. You are more matured than that… You’re 18, ripe for marriage. You need to start thinking smart.
Sofiat – Okay sir
Uncle Musa – (walked into the house) Hello who’s in here?…
Dad – Ahh… E karó sir. E jor take a sit. You’re welcome. Honey prepare uncle Musa favourite (he instructed mom)
Mom – Okay sir… Mo bò (I’m coming)
Uncle Musa – No need for that Balogun… I’m here to warn you.
Dad – Ahh… Brother! What have I done?
Uncle Musa – you have beaten more than you can chew
Sofiat – (listening from behind)
Uncle Musa – I have told you to give me the documents to that land at the bank of river and you refuse. I’m your elder brother and you must obey me.
Dad – Aburoh!… Brother mi, you disappoint me. with all your wealth and properties, you still come here to drag what rightfully belongs to me?… Never!. You will never get that land.
Uncle Musa – E mi Babalola?… You shame me. My own little brother.
Dad – (stood up in aggressively) please leave my house, leave me and my family. From now on I have no brother.
Uncle Musa – Ahh… The worst has happened. You’re chasing me from this gutter you call home?… And you disregard me. Hmmm… You won’t live to tell the story Balogun.
Dad – you can’t do anything!… Please get out.
Mum – (unaware of what transpired brought food for uncle Musa) What’s going on?
Uncle Musa – (throw the food on her body) and left..
Mum – (Screamed..).. Ahhh. What’s all this now? (The food was very hot and it burnt her)
Dad – You’re a devil “old man” (referring to uncle Musa)
Curtains…..
Sofiat’s POV
I remember all transpired that day. My dad and mom totally forgot they had such issues with my uncle because it was later settled in the village. We never knew this old man was still the devil.
Present day
Sofiat – I must go confront him and make sure the police arrest him.
Aunt Hajarat – you will do no such thing.
Sofiat – Why??… He needs to pay for all he has done and I must get justice.
Aunt Hajarat – My baby sofiat, They are many other ways to do things and I’m here to help achieve justice. But there’s one thing we have to do first.
Sofiat – Which is??
Aunt Hajarat – Will need to make your death certificate.
Sofiat – WHAT???
