Jeremiah Fasipe, a Nigerian, has been elected president of the students’ union at Sheffield Hallam University in the United Kingdom.

In an announcement made by the group responsible for organizing the election, the Representation and Democracy Team said that Fasipe, a postgraduate student studying public relations and crisis management, had won the election by a margin of 792 votes over the other five contenders.

Fasipe, who was also the recipient of the Inspirational Individual Award, was elected as the SUG’s 30th president.

Fasipe told our correspondent that his victory was the result of hard work, perseverance, and determination. He added that he has always believed in himself and that the victory is a realization of a dream.  He said he would use his position to bring about positive change and to promote Nigeria’s reputation abroad, noting that his election as president was a step toward greater accomplishments.

In order to increase student engagement, academic performance, and overall experience, he declared that he is prepared to foster the relationship between the students’ union and the university.

“I’m feeling so happy. Hard work and perseverance paid off in this. I can’t express how grateful I am to God for allowing me to see this momentous occasion because I have always dreamed of such a day.

“I want to take advantage of this opportunity to enhance students’ academic experience at Sheffield Hallam University, making sure that students are well represented in every decision regarding their academic needs, and upholding all the mandates upon which I am elected,” he declared.

However, he urged the students to pursue greatness and not give up on their dreams, saying that while experience might not always be sufficient, having faith in oneself and having a strong will to succeed should be their greatest assets.   “Despite growing up in poverty in Kirikiri town, Lagos, Nigeria, I never let uncontrollable circumstances force me to give up my dreams,” he continued.

“I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude and appreciation to everyone for their support and encouragement. Without them, I wouldn’t have advanced this far. “.
