Honors given to top-performing UTME candidates in Edo

Gold Ajagun, 15, was honored by the Edo State House of Assembly on Thursday by being appointed a one-day speaker in recognition of his academic excellence.   Ajagun, who hails from Ososo in the state’s Akoko-Edo local government area, scored 335 on the most recent unified tertiary matriculation examination and earned eight A1s at Gloryland Secondary School in the West African secondary school certificate examination.   

He also received a one-year sponsorship from the speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, and a N1 million scholarship from Donald Okogbe, who represented Akoko Edo II.   As the State House of Assembly’s fictitious one-day Speaker, Ajagun presided over a mock session during which he urged the state legislature to allocate more money to the education sector in order to ensure that all students of school age receive a fundamentally sound education.    

Agbebaku was pleased to meet him and expressed that Ajagun’s success ensured the future of the state and the country. He also noted that youth academic excellence was a guarantee for the future of the state and the country.   

When greeting him, Agbebaku expressed his happiness over Ajagun’s accomplishment and noted that the future of the state and the country is assured by the young people’s academic excellence.   

“I am proud of Ajagun for what he has accomplished. It demonstrates how young people like Ajagun are safeguarding the future of the state and the nation. To motivate others, I will sponsor him for a year.   

“I am excited by the feat achieved by Ajagun,” said Okogbe, adding that the scholarship program would become an annual event for his district for the following four years. “.   

In addition, he said Ajagun would receive a three-month computer training program before classes resumed to get him ready for the upcoming academic journey, and he urged kindhearted people to help Ajagun realize his lifelong dream of becoming a doctor.   

The member of the Edo State House of Assembly who chairs the committee on Information noted that thanks to the Speaker’s generosity, Master Ajagun’s first two years of university study were covered.   

In addition, a well-known fashion designer named Gini Couture has promised to support the young prodigy by updating his wardrobe.
