The significance and importance of Rainfall

Rain is a Natural occurance or phenomenon with so many significance and importance to Nature at large. Thus, Rain is a droplet of pure water condensed from atmospheric vapor of densed Clouds merging and then becomes heavy enough to descend under gravity. The amount of Rain that descends on the surface of the earth is term “Rainfall”.

The significance of Rainfall depends on Ideology, Any person or group could probably assign a meaning. In the Ancient days, Africans believed rain falls for certain reasons according to their various tradition. Assigning different meaning to its significance as follows;

Period of Rainfall Signifies
Beginning of the Year (January/February) A Fruitful season or Year
June to August Rain Normal occurence with green crops and enough vegetables
July / August Break The Corn season
Rain on Burial ceremony The Death of an Icon
Rain on Marriage Ceremony Blessings
Heavy storm on a sunny day The Birth of a great person
Heavy Rain causing disasters A sinful town
Heavy Rain ending with Rainbow God’s promise / forgiveness on his people
November Rain The Bringer of Harmattan
Hot/Dry season Rain Invoked Rain

Apart from all this significance Rainfall is very important to nature as it serves many purposes to humans, animals and plants.. 
– The Earth benefits from rainfall with the deposited components, the soil is richly enriched. 
– The rain is one major source of fresh water which is the source of live to Man, animals and plants.
– Rain helps to grow our planted crops; with the enriched soil planted crops and weeds grow well
– Rain helps to reduce sandy soils in deserted areas.
– It increase water level of Seas, Rivers, Ocean etc.
This is just the good part about Rainfall, Let us not forget it’s Negative effect of Excessive Rainfall or Heavy Rainfall.
– Excess Rain causes flooding
– Heavy Rain can collapse any unfirm building or falling Big Heavy trees on top your roof
– Rain sometimes wash away nutrients from a fertile land to a non fertile land. ( in the process of erosion).
– Cause cold and exposure to deadly disease and virus (Pneumonia and Corona) etc.
Even with all these negative effects of Rainfall it’s significance and importance still overcome the negative effects.
