NYSC Registration: The Importance of Name Consistency Explained

What NYSC PCMs Should Know About Name Variations

Over the last few years, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has had some regrets regarding name discrepancies and inconsistencies in the various documents required for the one-year national service.

However, we have made some significant changes regarding such situations. We therefore feel it is necessary to educate prospective Corp Members (PCMs) on these changes, which may affect their years of service if not properly vetted.

What NYSC PCMs Should Know About Name Discrepancies in NYSC Registration

All potential Corp Members should take note of the following:

The name of the PCM on the NYSC portal must match the name on the result declaration issued by their institution.

The NYSC portal no longer allows for the addition/deletion of names. However, minor corrections like name change or correction of minor spelling mistakes in name will still be allowed on the PCM Dashboard. But not after registering for camp.
PCMs will not be able to register for camp if the name mentioned in their convocation letter is different from the name mentioned in the submitted result notice. This means that such persons should not bother to waste their time going for an orientation camp.
If PCMs have a reason to change their name during registration, such persons should pause the registration process and try to resolve the issue with their institution before proceeding with the registration. Names submitted by the student representatives of an educational institution are always included in the senate list of that institution. Therefore, the PCM must check the spelling/sequence of the name before proceeding with the next step, which is registration.

Note: Name differences should not be overlooked as they may still have an impact even after the mandatory national youth service.
