NYSC Takes Proactive Steps to Ensure Corps Members’ Welfare and Security
The NYSC program is one that places a premium on the welfare and security of its corps members, as exemplified by the recent directives issued by the Director-General. These orders, which include the suspension of certain activities and the avoidance of wearing uniforms and participating in protests, have been put in place to safeguard the corps members during a volatile political period in Nigeria.
In response to the ongoing political instability, the Director-General of the NYSC program, through his representative, Nura Umar, has issued a circular to all corps members. The circular outlines directives aimed at safeguarding the welfare and security of the participants, including the suspension of certain activities and the avoidance of wearing uniforms and participating in protests.
“The Director-General has issued instructions for immediate and strict compliance by all corps members, which are to be communicated to all Zonal/Local Government Inspectors for enforcement:
- Until further notice, corps members must refrain from wearing their uniforms.
- Corps members are not to participate in any protests.
In addition to the previous instructions, the Director-General has also suspended biometric clearance and CDS activities until further notice. The resumption of these activities will be communicated to you in the near future. It is imperative that you convey these directives to all Zonal/Local Government Inspectors for prompt compliance, and ensure that they communicate these instructions to all Corps Members.
We thank you for your cooperation and understanding in this matter.
Kind regards,
Nura Umar
On behalf of the Director-General “
The measures taken by the Director-General reflect a heightened sense of alertness and caution in response to the potential risks associated with the ongoing political situation in Nigeria. By instructing corps members to refrain from wearing uniforms and participating in protests, the Director-General aims to protect their safety and ensure that the NYSC program continues to function smoothly.
The decision to suspend biometric clearance and CDS activities is also a prudent step, given the potential disruption that these activities could cause if carried out in an environment that is not conducive to peaceful and orderly operations.
