A Comprehensive Guide for Prospective Corps Members (PCMs)
Before Orientation Camp
- Print your call-up letter and make extra copies
- Ensure all documents are in twos (colored original and black & white photocopies)
- Prepare yourself physically, mentally, and spiritually for the camp experience
Essential Items to Bring
- Statement of Result
- School ID card
- Passport photographs (8 copies or more)
- Call-Up Letter (do not laminate)
- Green card/Call up number (do not laminate)
- NYSC Medical Fitness Certificate
- Clear Bag file to house the above items
Convenience Items
- Waist Purse
- White T-shirts and shorts
- Socks and white rubber tennis shoes
- Bathroom slippers and Dettol
- Plastic bucket and permanent marker
- Sponge and case, bath-soap, and detergent
- Bedspread, towel, and wrapper
- Mosquito Net
- Small-sized Torchlight/Rechargeable lamp
- ATM card(s)
- Cooler cup and spoon
- Phone and charger
- Beverages
- Money
Camp Life
- Arrive early to secure a comfortable bed space
- Screening starts at the gate, where your loads are searched
- Registration includes hostel/bed space, paper registrations, and kit collection
- Use the marker to write your Code Number (CN) on your kits
- Meal ticket and bicycle allowance will be given
- Duration: 20 full days, with the 21st day being the day you leave camp
Dressing and Parade
- No casual wears except Sundays till 2 pm
- Only white T-shirt and shorts with tennis shoes are allowed
- Parade/marching training starts immediately
Food and Photography
- Hate the food and feed yourself at your cost
- Photographers will be available, be prudent in spending
Stealing and Soldiers
- Stealing is prevalent, be wise and smart
- Respect and obey soldiers, they can punish you
Allowance and Place of Primary Assignment
- First allowance (#33,000) will be given in camp
- Bicycle Allowance will also be given
- Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) will be posted from camp
Transportation and Accommodation
- Transportation out of camp may be arranged by employers or Fellowship
- Accommodation at PPA may be temporary or rented at your cost
Clearance
- Complete registration at the NYSC Office in the Local Govt before going home
- Failure to complete clearance may result in problems with subsequent allowances
