NDDC Launches Internship Scheme for 10,000 Youths in Niger Delta Region
In a bid to empower young talent, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has launched a comprehensive internship scheme for 10,000 youths spanning the nine states of the region.
The initiative aims to equip the region’s youths with the necessary skills and experience for securing meaningful employment, as well as empower them to become successful entrepreneurs through self-employment.
Barrister Chiedu Ebie, Chairman of the NDDC governing board, launched the scheme in Port Harcourt, noting that it would prioritize merit-based admission for individuals below 45 years and also establish metrics to evaluate its economic influence on the region.
In his address, NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, commended the youths of the Niger Delta region for maintaining peace and stability in the area, despite the ongoing nationwide protests.
Ogbuku said: “The protest was not meant for the people of the Niger Delta. We have demonstrated that we might be diverse in our languages, but we have one ideology. When the people of Niger Delta were protesting, nobody joined us.”
Dr. Ogbuku extended an invitation to companies that departed the region during the period of unrest to return, highlighting the Niger Delta’s transformation into the country’s most peaceful region.
