A Comprehensive Guide for Prospective Corps Members (PCMs)

Pre-Camp Preparation

  1. Print your call-up letter from the internet and make extra copies.
  2. Ensure you have all necessary documents, including:
    • Statement of Result
    • School ID card
    • Passport photographs (8 copies or more)
    • Call-Up Letter (not laminated)
    • Green card/Call up number (not laminated)
    • NYSC Medical Fitness Certificate
    • A clear bag file to house these items

Camp Essentials

  1. Very Important Ones:
    • Statement of Result

    • Call-Up Letter
    • Green card/Call up number
    • NYSC Medical Fitness Certificate
  2. Important Ones (for convenience):
    • Waist purse
    • White T-shirts and shorts
    • Socks and white rubber tennis shoes
    • Bathroom slippers and Dettol
    • Plastic bucket and permanent marker
    • Sponge and case, bath-soap, and detergent
    • Bedspread, towel, and wrapper
    • Mosquito Net
    • Small-sized Torchlight/Rechargeable lamp
    • ATM card(s)
    • Cooler cup and spoon
    • Phone and charger
    • Beverages
    • Money

Camp Life

  1. Arrive early to secure a comfortable bed space.
  2. Screening starts at the gate, where your loads will be searched.
  3. Registration involves hostel/bed space allocation, paper registrations, and kit distribution.
  4. Follow instructions strictly and keep your meal ticket safe.
  5. Camp duration is 20 days, with the 21st day for departure.
  6. Dress code: all white attire (T-shirt, shorts, and shoes) except on Sundays.
  7. Morning regimented program includes praise, worship, prayer, and parade training.
  8. Food: be prepared for camp food or buy from the Mammy Market.
  9. Stealing is prevalent; be wise and smart.
  10. Respect and obey soldiers; they can punish you.

Post-Camp

  1. Receive your first allowance (#33,000) in cash.
  2. Get your posting letter and report to your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA).
  3. Arrange for transportation to your PPA.
  4. Find accommodation at your PPA, possibly through the Fellowship or employer.
  5. Complete clearance at the NYSC Office in your Local Govt to avoid issues with subsequent allowances.
