10 Essential Tips for a Smooth NYSC Camp Experience

10 Essential Tips for Prospective Corps Members

NYSC Camp Essentials: A Guide for Prospective Corps Members

As you prepare for Orientation Camp, carefully note the following:

  1. Phone Charging: Corps members are not allowed to charge phones in hostels or NYSC buildings. You’ll need to pay ₦50 to charge your phone or torchlight at Mami Market.
  2. Light Out Hour: By 10:00 pm, Corps Members must be in their hostels, with lights out and no calls or chats allowed until 4:00 am.
  3. No Romance or Sex: NYSC camp is not a place for sexual activities. Hostels are far apart, and soldiers patrol day and night.
  4. Focus on Your Mission: Forget about finding love in camp. Focus on your purpose, and avoid temptations.
  5. NYSC Food: While the food may not be great, eat it if you can. Some Corps Members may prefer buying food at Mami Market, but be prepared for the unexpected.
  6. Fainting: It’s common to see Corps Members fainting during drills. Stay hydrated and take care of yourself.
  7. Early Mornings: Wake up every morning at 4:30 am for drills and lectures. There’s no time for rest.
  8. Snoring and Noisy Hostels: Be prepared for a snoring competition with your roommates. Hostels are like big halls with many people.
  9. Stand Still: When you hear the beagle’s sound, stand still for Nigeria’s national anthem at 6:00 pm and 6:00 am.
  10. Bring Enough Money: Come with at least ₦15,000, but consider bringing ₦40,000 if you prefer buying food at Mami Market.

Remember, NYSC camp is a unique experience. Be prepared, stay focused, and make the most of your time.
