Honors given to top-performing UTME candidates in Edo
Gold Ajagun, 15, was honored by the Edo State House of Assembly on Thursday by being appointed a one-day speaker in recognition of his academic excellence. Ajagun, who hails from Ososo in the state’s Akoko-Edo local government area, scored 335 on the most recent unified tertiary matriculation examination and earned eight A1s at Gloryland Secondary School in the West African secondary school certificate examination.
He also received a one-year sponsorship from the speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, and a N1 million scholarship from Donald Okogbe, who represented Akoko Edo II. As the State House of Assembly’s fictitious one-day Speaker, Ajagun presided over a mock session during which he urged the state legislature to allocate more money to the education sector in order to ensure that all students of school age receive a fundamentally sound education.
