Labour Delicates in a meeting with Federal Government officials in Aso Rock

Currently, a meeting between the Federal Government and Organized Labor is taking place in the Chief of Staff Conference Room of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.   The purpose of the meeting on Monday is to inform the government representatives of the resolutions adopted by the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria.

Among them will be Labour’s final judgment on the accommodations and offers the FG made to the workers on Sunday.

Our correspondent noticed that the government is meeting with the two labor organizations separately and in turn. The FG is currently meeting with TUC representatives as of this writing.

The PUNCH reports that at the meeting on Sunday, Labour decided to forward the FG’s offer to their various organs for consideration in order to potentially postpone the planned nationwide strike for October 3.

President Bola Tinubu’s chief of staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, told reporters on Sunday that the President had agreed to review the Provisional Wage Increase from N25,000 to N35,000 for both senior and low-grade workers.   Until a new minimum wage was agreed upon, the PWI was to be extended universally, per Labour’s request.   Calls to extend the offer’s validity beyond six months, however, were not approved.

One of the decisions made at the meeting on Sunday was that “A subcommittee to be constituted to work out the details of implementation of all items for consideration regarding government interventions to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal.” Mohammed Idris, the minister of information and national orientation, released this statement as one of the resolutions made at the meeting. “.

The statement also stated, “The NLC and TUC will consider the offers by the Federal Government to suspend the planned strike to allow for further consultations on the implementation of the resolutions above.”.

The NLC President, Joe Ajaero, his TUC counterpart, Festus Osifo, the NLC General Secretary, Emma Ugbaja, and the TUC Secretary General, Nuhu Toro are among the labor representatives.
