Donald Trump to appear in Court today for fraud trial
Donald Trump (ex-President of the United States) |
The Republican front-runner’s business empire is in jeopardy as he campaigns to win back the White House while four criminal cases are pending.
On Monday, a civil fraud trial against the former president and two of his sons begins in New York.
Judge Arthur Engoron already decided that Donald Trump and his sons Eric and Don Jr. inflated the worth of the Trump Organization’s financial and real estate holdings for years, committing fraud.
Trump announced late Sunday night that he intended to attend the trial’s opening on Monday. The 77-year-old posted on his Truth Social platform, he said:
“I’m going to Court tomorrow morning to fight for my name and reputation.”. He continued, “This whole case is a sham!”.
Trump will soon be involved in a number of significant criminal cases in addition to this civil case.
On March 4, he is due in court in Washington, D.C., to answer charges that he attempted to rig Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential election.
Later, Trump will appear in a Florida federal court where he is charged with mishandling classified documents after leaving office before appearing once more in a New York state court, this time on criminal hush money charges.
Last but not least, he will be held accountable for state charges in Georgia, where prosecutors allege that Trump illegally attempted to have the state’s 2020 election results changed in his favor. In the New York civil case, Engoron found that between 2014 and 2021, the value of Trump, his two eldest sons, and other Trump Organization executives’ properties was overstated by $812 million to $2.2 billion thanks to a scheme in which they lied to tax authorities, lenders, and insurers for years.
